The first moving building will be realized in Dubai, a tower that can change form, creating an endless becoming; it seems an oxymoron that becomes reality. David Fisher has invented something that forces us, in a way, to change our point of view. Our certainty of an immobile and immutable building is being put at stake by this revolutionary project. Its completion is scheduled for 2010. The opening of the list to secure the first mobile apartments in the Dynamic Tower was communicated last 24th June.
It is an entirely innovative structure that, thanks to the action of the wind and sun, will be able to constantly change form. Every floor will revolve autonomously, adapting to the change of conditions outside the building. The Italian architect has thus realized what many define as the breakthrough towards future architecture.
David Fisher, after graduating in architecture in Florence, started a career that has led him in the last thirty years to carry out continuous testing in the field of architecture. He has always tried to introduce in the classical discipline mechanical elements that would allow him to transform buildings, giving them new life. He has realized important works in the major capitals of the world: London, Moscow, Hong Kong, Paris, Dubai.
Architecture for Fisher is a combination of feasibility, functionality and engineering. Thanks to the union of these elements, he has tried to revolutionize building techniques. The two main concepts that he works on are the use of prefabricated units and dynamic architecture. Thanks to movement, a fourth dimension is added to the traditional three dimensions: time.
The Dynamic Tower offers countless design possibilities, on each occasion it will be possible to decide whether to exploit sunlight in a certain way, offer a specific view of the scenery, or simply let natural energy determine the movement of the building.
Energy is one of the keywords of this new project. Indeed, it is a structure conceived for the respect of the environment. Supplied with turbines that capture wind energy, it is able to generate independently the energy required by the building and surroundings structures. Furthermore, its realization technique is revolutionary: the building is “assembled” starting from prefabricated units. 90% of the building will be realized in an industrial plant in the Jebel Ali Free Zone and finally assembled on site. This way will make works faster and reduce significantly building costs. According to Fisher this will be the building technique for the future.
During a press conference in New York, the plan of the housing units available in the 80-floor (420 metres high) skyscraper was illustrated; there are 124-square-metre flats as well as 1,200-metre villas, with indoor car park.
The building realized in Dubai will only be the first of a series of moving buildings that David Fisher’s studio will realize all over the world. Indeed, once the planning of the central structure will have been defined, it will be possible to realize towers in very short times, thanks to prefabricated units that will be “packaged” and sent to all the world. The Dynamic Tower destined to the City of Moscow is already at the advanced planning stage, in the new prestigious area of the Russian capital. David Fisher would like to realize his third mobile skyscraper in New York. Moreover, there are plans for new buildings in Canada, Germany, Italy, Korea and Switzerland.
