Following the 2008 edition of The Armory Show, for which Mary Heilmann and John Waters created the visual identity, British artist Ewan Gibbs (b.1973) has been commissioned to take up the task for the 2009 edition of the fair.
A former student at Goldsmiths, Gibbs – who is currently working on a solo show at SFMOMA and Timothy Taylor in London (for September 2008) – will present a series of drawings that celebrate New York. This work will embody the advertising and marketing material of The Armory Show, which a few months ago announced the introduction of a Modern Art section dedicated to dealers specializing in the modern and secondary markets.
