We all know well Robert Capa’s photograph portraying the Spanish civil war militiaman as he falls, arms open, hit by a bullet, but nobody has ever seen his body and it has also been discovered that there is no piece of paper that certifies his death. For a long time this image of a man collapsing into death was a propagandistic symbol against the Francoist tyranny and most importantly it opened historiographic polemics: if the photograph were a fake? After all these years, we are able to claim that the photo is authentic and we can even reveal the dead man’s identity.
The Barbican Centre of London is responsible for confirming this authenticity and through an exhibition it is trying to wipe away definitely all the suspects that have been suggested in the last years about it being a fabricated photo.

MAKE WAY! HIGH SPEED AT THE TATE
September 5 2008
Until 16th November London’s Tate Gallery will not be simply a museum, but also an original racing circuit put on by English artist Martin Creed. It is not a photographic exhibition nor a film production, and it does not involve manikins or robots in mimic fixity, but rather men in flesh and bone, from every walk of life, recruited by means of a public notice to sprint at regular intervals and whisk away through the restrained corridors of the London museum. Indeed, the prestigious “track”, every thirty seconds, is beaten by about fifty hundred-metre sprinters running wildly along the 90 metres of perimeter of the Duveen Galleries. Thus, during the spectators’ ecstasy, between a landscape by Turner and the Preraffaellites’ elegance, an actual speed race takes place.

Georg Baselitz is universally recognized as one of the most famous and productive German artists. A great twentieth-century neo-expressionist painter, celebrated by the great international public for his oeuvre characterized by paintings with head-first figures that express an overturning of the traditional logic. The optical effect thus achieved is of paintings that at first impression seem abstract but, looked at more carefully, they reveal their true nature of figurative pictures.
In Baselitz’s artistic career the year 1965 was very important, as his studies took him to Florence, fascinating city which made him become passionate about the graphical art of Italian Mannerism.
