In September Sotheby’s will gratify the curiosity of various art lovers, without forgetting to satisfy also those who can afford statues of exceptional value and especially of extra large dimensions. From 9th September to 2nd November, the luxuriant gardens of Chatsworth will be animated by the presence of extraordinarily large statues. “Beyond Limits” is at its third edition bringing pieces of mighty proportions into the charming vegetation of the magnificent residence of Chatsworth, English treasure built in the 16th century by the Duke of Devonshire, already venue of many cultural events and residence that inspired Jane Austen.

Particularly famous for her provocative representation of the female body or her anatomic fragments, during her long career Kiki Smith has explored a wide range of subjects and themes, that vary from religion to folklore, passing through mythology, natural sciences, history of art and especially feminism. The American sculptress of German origins (she was born in Germany in 1954 but she has lived and worked in New York since the seventies) can be defined a conceptual artist, for her ability to analyze and examine the human form from its inside. All Kiki Smith’s oeuvre is founded on the intent to present the human body as a martyred body, a subject exhausted by the frantic pace of contemporary society.

The story of the rise of the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami seems to be unstoppable. The huge success obtained at the MoCa Los Angeles to open the world tour of his retrospectives was not enough, which until May 2009 will hit the greatest artistic institutions like the Brooklyn Museum New York (until 13th July 2008), the Museum fu Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt (September 2008 – January 2009) and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (February – May 2009).
